Ting Ting and Frankie

Friday, July 15th, 2011

For Frankie’s second birthday we took the kittens out for a photoshoot. Frankie turned two years old on July 4th and Ting Ting will turn two on September 11th. We celebrate their birthdays on the day we adopted them, which turned out to be on two historical days, by coincidence!

Ting Ting has grown up so much in the past two years! When we first adopted her she was very sick, but she was a brave girl and is all better now and very healthy. She has a lot of spunk and loves to play and get into all kinds of trouble! 🙂

Frankie is 15lbs now! Its hard to believe he was a little 2lbs kitten when we first got him! He also used to have the cutest little smudge of black fur on the top of his head, but as he grew up the black furs went away, and now there is only one left!

Ting Ting has a really beautiful coat! One half her face is black/grey tabby and the other half is orange/cream tabby, the same for her front legs and her hind legs, but the rest of her body is the black/grey tabby with a few tortoiseshell splashes. We like to tease and say she couldn’t make up her mind what she wanted to be, a calico, a tabby, or a tortoiseshell, so she chose them all!

When we take them out they’re actually wearing a harness and a leash, so we don’t loose them, and Marissa is wrangling both of them as they try to explore in various directions while we were taking photos.

I love how you can see the curiosity in her eyes!

Foster Kittens

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The Greenville Humane Society needed somebody to foster these adorable kittens while they found a mommy kitty willing to take them in. We had the three orphans for about four days and loved it! They were about ten days old, just opening their eyes and ears!

This little lady was the runt of the litter. They almost don’t look like cats when they’re this young!

This little guy loved to snuggle!

My favorite, the healthiest one, reminded me of a cheetah! Look at the cute little “M” on his forehead! His little ears flapped when he suckled!

Taking care of orphan kittens is a big responsibility, not a decision to be taken lightly. They have to be fed every few hours, and because they are so young, they can’t go to the bathroom on their own. Their mom will lick them to encourage them to go…we used cotton balls. This has to be done at every feeding, and then they need to be cleaned and kept in a warm area. Unfortunately, orphan kittens don’t always make it, because they lack the necessary antibodies to fight off common illnesses. Normally the mother’s milk would provide this for them. Luckily for these guys, another mommy kitty was willing to take them in, and they’ll have a much better chance of growing up, and finding a forever home!

Ting Ting and Frankie!

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Marissa and I took Ting Ting and Frankie out to Furman University for a walk. Yes, you read right. You can put a leash on most animals and they will walk. Frankie is a lazy cat though, so he didn’t walk much. Ting Ting walked over  half-way around the lake at Furman! Before our walk we stopped by some trees to take a few pictures.

This one is Ting Ting. I named her after the band, The Ting Tings. She was a little sick when we first got her, but is all better now, her fur is still growing back, that’s why her nose may look a little funny.

Frankie is just being lazy 🙂

Ting Ting always likes to tilt her head. She is almost like an owl and turns her head many different directions.

Aww, sister and brother.

Frankie has grown up so much since his First Day in the Park! It always amazes me how white he looks! He actually has a tiny black smudge of fur on the top of his head, but you can never see it in pictures because the rest of him is so white.

Look how sweet Ting Ting looks! I love the little tufts of fur on her ears (we think she may be part Maine Coon!)

Frankie kept crawling right against the ground, like he was on the prowl except he wasn’t hunting or chasing anything. Goofy cat!

The pretty mountains in the background! Ting Ting almost looks like a black tabby from this side! I love her unique calico markings, a little half and half kitten!

We got a lot of stares and comments about walking our cats! I guess most people don’t take their cats for walks! They love stalking through the grass, climbing the trees, and chasing leaves! It gives them a chance to be out in their natural habitat without any of the dangers! The best part was watching the cats sniff the dogs! Ting Ting seemed to prefer running in the grass, while Frankie seemed to enjoy climbing trees more. They both thought the ducks were pretty curious, and Ting Ting liked to chase after bikers! At the end of the day the cats were all “tuckered out” and slept so soundly the rest of the night (Frankie even snored).
