Next up was Oh Land, my favorite musician of all time! For real! Earlier this year we won the #1 Fan Contest and they flew us out to California to see her in concert and meet and talk with her! It was awesome!
It was so much fun to see her in concert again! She came out on stage wearing a unicorn hat! 🙂
Tore and Hans had on a bird and wolf mask during the “Wolf and I” song! That’s talent to play keyboard and drums with animal masks on! Ha, ha!
Oh Land is so energetic and by far the best performer I’ve seen in concert! Add that to her amazing music and it’s an unforgettable experience!
The colors in the lighting were really fun! None of these are photoshopped. They are all natural concert lighting colors!
There is Tore in the background! I love the fun and joy in this photo! You can really tell they have fun at what they do!
Oh Land always has fun balloons on stage and lights them up different colors and projects images on them!
I just thought this was a fun silhouette against the balloons!
Oh Land remembered our names! She also signed my cartoon poster I made for her and the others! Be sure to check out Oh Land’s music video for White Nights that she just released!
Here is the cartoon I made them! Each line is a line from one of the songs from each of them! The illustration is based off of it. I’ve never incorporated words or phrases into my illustrations before. It was fun! I went crazy with colors! There are little things that are specific and have meaning to each musician! Can you see where I spelled out Sia on her pants?
Sia came on after Oh Land! This was the first time we’ve seen her in concert! Sia is so unique and fun!
Sia was having fun with her crazy outfit!
The guitarist! His outfit was just too awesome with his hair and beard!
And drummer! Can you tell Sia likes colors?
I went up to the balcony to get a shot and made it BW & color!
We also go to meet Sia after the concert! 🙂
It was fun going to a concert with three different nationalities, Oh Land, from Denmark, Sia from Australia and Ximena from Mexico! Cool, huh?

Oh Land is my favorite musician of all time! Her music style is electric-pop. Her personal style is so unique, it’s hard to find a band that has a similar sound. The best I can think of that would fall in the same category would be Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, La Roux, Little Boots, and Róisín Murphy.
I won the Oh Land Top Fan Contest through Vevo to see her in concert and meet her after the concert! To win the contest you had to get points and the main way to get points was to share links to her music videos and the more people that clicked on the links and watched her music videos, the more points you got. Many thanks to all of my family and friends for clicking the links and watching her music videos! I hope you have become a fan of Oh Land too! She has been touring with OMD, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, as the opening band! OMD is great too!
Vevo gave us an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, CA! It was so nice of them! We had a lot of fun there!
You can see her video “Sun Of A Gun” below, which has already gotten 8M+ views on Youtube!
The concert was at the Music Box in Los Angeles, CA.
I was able to get a photo press pass to get right in front of the stage! It was an honor and very surreal being this close to photograph my favorite musician! I met some other really cool photographers, including Debi Del Grande, with L.A. Record.
Oh Land painted her face with gold glitter for the concert! She calls it “possesed by disco.”
Oh Land is the stage name for Nanna Øland Fabricius. When you change her middle name Øland into English, it’s Oh Land! She hails from the great country of Denmark, famous for Hans Christian Andersen who wrote stories such as The Little Mermaid and The Emperor’s New Clothes!
Oh Land’s parents, Bent Fabric, pianist and composer and Camille Arndt, opera singer, are very talented musicians as well!
I wasn’t zooming in here! This is actually how close I was with my 50mm lens! Oh Land crouched down a few times on the very edge of the stage!
The outfit Oh Land is wearing was designed by a friend of hers, Maj Anya of Ursidae New York and collaboration with infamous fashion designer, Carlo Alcantara! Here’s the detail of the back!
All of Oh Land’s songs are awesome, but my favorites would be Human, Sun Of A Gun, White Nights, Wolf and I, and Lean. I especially love the version of Lean with a string quartet!
I just love the colored lights they use as concerts!
Oh Land’s keyboardist, Tore, was tearing up that keyboard! I like his jacket too!
Oh Land performs with balloons on stage and a projection system to project different images and videos onto the balloons which she triggers with a drum pad, a system she designed. Cool, huh?!
Oh Land puts on an amazing performance, full of energy, twirling, dancing and smiles! Here are some photos below where I tried to capture all of that!
After the concert, Oh Land’s touring manager, Farra, took us backstage to meet Oh Land! We actually got to talk (not just sign our CDs and leave)!
We found out that Oh Land is a cat person, even though she has a cute little dog named Ujan (pronounced oo-yawn; oo as in boo). She hasn’t had Chick-fil-A yet, only living in America for a short time. We told her she has to try it, and Sun Drop too! She is so nice and down to earth! We had a lot of fun talking with her! Her #1 place she wants to visit in America is actually Charleston, SC! Hopefully she’ll have a concert there! 🙂
Oh Land signed a cartoon I illustrated of her!
Oh Land is dancing in a field with an umbrella, surrounded by trees exploding out of the ground! I read an interview with MTV that she likes to imagine trees exploding out of the ground and I immediately thought of a movie by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, My Neighbor Totoro where the trees pop out of the ground and grow into a huge tree! Oh Land also used to dance around on stage with an umbrella! There’s a wolf under the moon to symbolize her song “Wolf and I.” The little houses on the hill are from her album cover with art by Eske Kath. I drew her little dog, Ujan also! He looks kind of like a mini Chewbacca from Star Wars! Ujan even signed it for our cats Ting Ting and Frankie! He, he! The leaf on Oh Land’s head is the same leaf on Totoro’s head in the movie. Oh Land hasn’t seen My Neighbor Totoro yet, however she has seen Spirited Away, a movie also by Hayao Miyazaki!

I won the Oh Land #1 Fan Contest through Vevo to go see my favorite musician, Oh Land in concert and meet her after the concert! They gave us an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, CA! It was so nice of them!
We stayed at the Andaz West Hollywood hotel in Hollywood, CA! It’s a very high class hotel and the staff are so nice and hospitable! I would highly recommend it! This is the view we woke up to in the morning with LA in the distant haze!
Marissa’s father, Doug, lives in California so we decided to visit him in our free time! We drove out to Santa Clarita, CA. On the way we saw some beautiful countryside! Since it’s still spring, everything hasn’t turned into a desert yet. He, he!
Marissa’s father is an expert remote control helicopter pilot! We went to a park where he has tests runs when he gets new helicopters and gear.
His remote control has more buttons than my camera! Craziness!
This helicopter can fly 80MPH+
Doug was doing all sorts of aerobatic tricks!
This was one of the coolest tricks! He was hovering upside-down right over the grass!
After the helicopter tricks, we went downtown Hollywood, CA and saw the Chinese Theatre!
There was a giant mario, one of my favorite video game heroes. Sonic the Hedgehog is my all-time favorite though!
One of my favorite actors foot and hand prints, Johnny Depp.
Catwoman and Batman made an appearance downtown 😉 Their costumes were really amazing and acted just like the real ones!
Catwoman and Batman are our favorite comic book heroes!
We went to the top of a building to get a good shot of the Hollywood sign!
We drove around and explored for a bit looking at the celebrity houses and found an overlook. I zoomed in and found the WB water tower and studios!
We went back to the hotel to get ready for the Oh Land concert and went up to the roof of the hotel that has a pool on top! You could see Los Angeles in the distance!
