Oh Land is my favorite musician of all time! Her music style is electric-pop. Her personal style is so unique, it’s hard to find a band that has a similar sound. The best I can think of that would fall in the same category would be Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, La Roux, Little Boots, and Róisín Murphy.
I won the Oh Land Top Fan Contest through Vevo to see her in concert and meet her after the concert! To win the contest you had to get points and the main way to get points was to share links to her music videos and the more people that clicked on the links and watched her music videos, the more points you got. Many thanks to all of my family and friends for clicking the links and watching her music videos! I hope you have become a fan of Oh Land too! She has been touring with OMD, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, as the opening band! OMD is great too!
Vevo gave us an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, CA! It was so nice of them! We had a lot of fun there!
You can see her video “Sun Of A Gun” below, which has already gotten 8M+ views on Youtube!
The concert was at the Music Box in Los Angeles, CA.
I was able to get a photo press pass to get right in front of the stage! It was an honor and very surreal being this close to photograph my favorite musician! I met some other really cool photographers, including Debi Del Grande, with L.A. Record.
Oh Land painted her face with gold glitter for the concert! She calls it “possesed by disco.”
Oh Land is the stage name for Nanna Øland Fabricius. When you change her middle name Øland into English, it’s Oh Land! She hails from the great country of Denmark, famous for Hans Christian Andersen who wrote stories such as The Little Mermaid and The Emperor’s New Clothes!
Oh Land’s parents, Bent Fabric, pianist and composer and Camille Arndt, opera singer, are very talented musicians as well!
Here’s Oh Land’s talented drummer, Hans Hvidberg-Hansen! Check out his cool hair!
Oh Land has such a beautiful voice!
“We Turn It Up” was featured on Gossip Girl!
Oh Land recently performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
I wasn’t zooming in here! This is actually how close I was with my 50mm lens! Oh Land crouched down a few times on the very edge of the stage!
The outfit Oh Land is wearing was designed by a friend of hers, Maj Anya of Ursidae New York and collaboration with infamous fashion designer, Carlo Alcantara! Here’s the detail of the back!
All of Oh Land’s songs are awesome, but my favorites would be Human, Sun Of A Gun, White Nights, Wolf and I, and Lean. I especially love the version of Lean with a string quartet!
I just love the colored lights they use as concerts!
Oh Land’s keyboardist, Tore, was tearing up that keyboard! I like his jacket too!
Oh Land performs with balloons on stage and a projection system to project different images and videos onto the balloons which she triggers with a drum pad, a system she designed. Cool, huh?!
Oh Land puts on an amazing performance, full of energy, twirling, dancing and smiles! Here are some photos below where I tried to capture all of that!
After the concert, Oh Land’s touring manager, Farra, took us backstage to meet Oh Land! We actually got to talk (not just sign our CDs and leave)!
We found out that Oh Land is a cat person, even though she has a cute little dog named Ujan (pronounced oo-yawn; oo as in boo). She hasn’t had Chick-fil-A yet, only living in America for a short time. We told her she has to try it, and Sun Drop too! She is so nice and down to earth! We had a lot of fun talking with her! Her #1 place she wants to visit in America is actually Charleston, SC! Hopefully she’ll have a concert there! 🙂
Oh Land signed a cartoon I illustrated of her!
Oh Land is dancing in a field with an umbrella, surrounded by trees exploding out of the ground! I read an interview with MTV that she likes to imagine trees exploding out of the ground and I immediately thought of a movie by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, My Neighbor Totoro where the trees pop out of the ground and grow into a huge tree! Oh Land also used to dance around on stage with an umbrella! There’s a wolf under the moon to symbolize her song “Wolf and I.” The little houses on the hill are from her album cover with art by Eske Kath. I drew her little dog, Ujan also! He looks kind of like a mini Chewbacca from Star Wars! Ujan even signed it for our cats Ting Ting and Frankie! He, he! The leaf on Oh Land’s head is the same leaf on Totoro’s head in the movie. Oh Land hasn’t seen My Neighbor Totoro yet, however she has seen Spirited Away, a movie also by Hayao Miyazaki!
